ABOUT ME

Kayla Sun is a writer and filmmaker. She was awarded the prestigious 2023 Academy Nicholl Fellowship for her script “Boy Girl Fig”, which was also a part of the 2024 annual BlackList. Her 2022 short film, “The Code of Family”, funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, garnered multiple awards at major film festivals. Kayla holds an M.F.A. in Film and Television Production from the University of Southern California, and earned her B.A. for Art and Economics at Vanderbilt University. Apart from filmmaking, she has worked in art and education, having lived in China, Japan and America. She speaks Chinese, English and Japanese.

Short Film | Writer Director

A short film funded by Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, about an Asian grandma deciding to learn computer science to fulfill her husband's last wish, but almost jeopardizes the relationship with the rest of the family as she tries to keep it a secret.
